Poplar Place is owned by trainers Chris and Carol Bearden. The primary focus is training horse and rider for combined training, but we welcome riders of all levels ages 7 through adult.

We are also host to Briones Valley Pony Club and their annual schooling show fundraiser.

Poplar Place Stables & Eventing is a combined training facility centrally located in the Briones Valley of Martinez, between Hwys. 80, 4, 24 and 680; a little over 10 minutes from Orinda, Lafayette, Pinole and Martinez, and less than 30 minutes from San Francisco.

Poplar Place Stables is a 45-stall facility with 33 outside paddocks, 6 double stalls and 6 single stalls. We are a full-care boarding/training stable with 24 hour supervision.

Each stall is a roomy 12'x12' with automatic waterers and all have rubber mats; 33 of the stalls have attached 12'x16' paddocks with rubber mats throughout. The stalls are cleaned seven days a week and bedded with premium shavings. The horses are fed alfalfa hay three times a day and oat hay pellets morning & night. Blanketing and unblanketing are provided as a courtesy, free of charge.

Our facility has two large arenas: an 85'x185' lighted indoor arena and a 180'x230' outdoor arena with sand all-weather footing which holds up remarkably well all throughout the wet winter months.

There is a 1/3rd mile conditioning track around the perimeter of the property and easy access to miles of trails--EBMUD and EBRPD land. There are four turnout paddocks (in dry weather only), plus the arenas when available. Turnout is available as one of our many services, at an additional fee.  We also offer transportation to local shows in our 4-horse and 2-horse trailers, based on availability.
